For the synthesis on Friday we were tasked with coming up with a one button application that could interact with a p5 sketch. After talking with my partner, we decided to try to map the school shootings in the US in 2015 and to use a gun as a button. This was a bit ambitious for an hour-long project, but after figuring out how data sets work via the p5 manual, help from Moon in organizing my code, and looking for the right map, I had my p5 sketch which is right here. Next I worked on making a prototype gun button. At first I tried soldering a button and placing it behind the trigger, then I tried copper tape, and finally I went with lose wires just to get an idea. The process was a bit of a struggle but I figured out how data sets work, reinforced my understanding of objects and arrays, and came away with something that is a bit meaningful. I’m trying to decide if I want to take it further or how I can improve it so I’m looking forward to feedback in class.
